In navolging van Masters of Horror, ook bedacht door Mick Garris, zoekt deze dertien delige serie de grenzen op van het horrorgenre. Het resultaat is een mix van gruwelijkheden, hallucinaties, kippenvel en heel veel schrikmomenten gemaakt door bekende regisseurs die wel eerder met het horrorbijltje hebben gehakt zoals John Landis (An American Werewolf In Londen), Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV), Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky), Mary Harron (American Psycho) en Ernest Dickerson (Heroes, Dexter, The Wire). Met medewerking van o.a. Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men), Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight), Cynthia Watros (Lost) en Dan Knauf (Supernatural, Carnivale).
