Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City) en Ellen Page (Juno) in één film: het resultaat is een innemende komedie over een chaotische familie. Weduwnaar, professor en stuk chagrijn Lawrence Wetherhold (Dennis Quaid) valt voor een voormalige studente (Parker). Het verloop van hun relatie komt echter in het gedrang als zijn flierefluitende stiefbroer (Thomas Haden Church) op het toneel verschijnt. Lawrence’ bijdehante, ambitieuze dochter (Page) kan niet voorkomen dat ze haar stiefoom toch wel leuk vindt… De chaos die ontstaat maakt het praktisch onmogelijk om nog een normale relatie op te bouwen. Maar ja, wat is normaal? Slimme mensen kunnen verdomd onhandig zijn!
