Another bright light to kick off 2009, alongside the inauguration of US President Obama is the release of The Biggest Sin , the debut album from the 'Wicked Jazz Sounds Band. An eleven strong jazz-funk outfit who ooze color, energy and above all the ability to preach the philosophy of live jazz to a crossover audience. For this bevy of musical all-stars it's all about the live. Jazz is their base, with nods to hip hop, funk, soul and samba. 'Let 'the music guide your life' as they say, and make sure you take those dancing shoes and a dry towel to wipe the brow. Wicked Jazz Sounds is a collective of musical talents which started back in 2002 through a funky, fun loving Amsterdam based party scene and whose motto is 'dance with a smile'. The vibe spread and the crowds soon got bigger and spread further outside the 'Dam; while the musical core remained solid with its roots in soul, funk, jazz and hip hop. Dj Phil Horneman got company from other music heads like djs Leroy Rey, Urvinson and Missing Links. So far, they have put together six compilations, alongside a weekly Nationwide radio show on 'Arrow Jazz FM'. The parties became some of the biggest and most loved jam sessions and the vibe just began to grow, and still does. The Wicked Jazz Sounds Band perform regularly in the popular venue Sugar Factory in Amsterdam, which is essentially their HQ. The Wicked Jazz Sounds family performed on a variety of prestigious stages including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Noorderslag Festival, Tivoli, Melkweg, Paradiso, Dance Valley, Loveland, Lowlands Festival amongst others. Don t think that 'dance with a smile' stands for empty headed escapism. Lyrics, statements and atmosphere are tastefully melted and forged together, like in the good old Earth Wind & Fire days. The Wicked Jazz Sounds Band is indeed a movement in the loosest sense of the word. A diverse, colorful, tight and above all mind-blowing live experience that you can now experience through this album, 'The Biggest Sin'.
