Het is 1815 als weduwnaar August King zijn oogst verkoopt en zijn wintervoorraden aanschaft. Op de terugweg ontmoet hij Annalees, een weg gelopen19-jarige slavin. Haar gewelddadige baas Drake heeft een ware klopjacht op de jonge slavin geopend. August King wil de jonge vrouw helpen haar vrijheid terug te krijgen, maar brengt daarmee ook zichzelf in gevaar…
