Michael Kitchen (James Bond-The World is not Enough) is detective Christopher Foyle in deze schitterende misdaadserie. Foyle’s War speelt zich af in het idyllische landschap van zuidelijk Engeland. In een tijd waarin een aantal Duitsers is ondergebracht in een Brits kamp, wordt een vrouw op gruwelijke wijze vermoord. Op een boom bij haar dode lichaam is een hakenkruis geverfd. Detective Foyle start zijn speurtocht naar de dader en realiseert zich dat het schijnbaar rustige Sussex geen enkel tekort heeft aan verdachten.
