Clouseau wordt per abuis op een uiterst prestigieuze zaak gezet: de chauffeur van een miljonair is vermoord en Clouseau valt (letterlijk) voor de hoofdverdachte, een mooi dienstmeisje dat Clouseau’s talent om op het verkeerde moment op de verkeerde plaats te zijn te evenaren. Naarmate het aantal slachtoffers oploopt en het strafblad van het meisje langer wordt, beseft Clouseau dat hij de “echte” dader snel zal moeten vinden omdat het met zijn carrière anders in gedaan.
