Om zijn vader te redden, sluit motorracer Johnny Blaze een pakt met de duivel Mephistopheles. Johnny verkoopt zijn ziel, maar Mephistopheles misleidt hem: Johnny’s vader sterft toch. Johnny is gebroken en verlaat alles wat hij heeft, zelfs zijn ware liefde Roxanne. Jaren later geeft Mephistopheles Johnny een kans om zijn ziel vrij te kopen. Als Johnny de gevreesde Ghost Rider wordt, kan hij Mephistophele’s boosaardige zoon verslaan, die van plan is om zijn vader van de troon te stoten en de aarde tot een ware hel te maken.
