Mention of gypsy-jazz instantly brings to mind the name Django Reinhardt. With his guitar and his Hot Club de France he wrote a chapter in musical history. Experts still argue about whether his music is truly jazz for he created something new from the fusion of New Orleans jazz, French waltzes and traditional Roma music-making. Following a caravan fire that seriously injured his left hand, he developed a new, virtuoso playing technique whereby he used only the first and middle fingers to play the melody. At the age of 43 he died from the effects of a stroke. 14 of his albums are presented in this box – Gypsy-Swing that is totally intoxicating, from the years 1953 to 1961.
