Der 1932 in Shamrock geborene Bill Smith nahm den Namen Bill Mack an, nachdem er am West Texas State College eine Ausbildung zum Radiomoderator gemacht hatte. Von der Ankündigung und Moderation von Hillbilly-Sendungen zu ersten eigenen Auftritten war es nur ein kleiner Schritt, 1951 hatte Mack seinen ersten Plattenvertrag mit Imperial und veröffentlichte ab 1956 - auch diese vier Songs - auf Starday Records.
