A seminal R&B instrumental album, 'Green Onions' was the 1962 debut by Booker T. & the M.G.'s on Stax Records. It reached number 33 on the pop album chart in the month of release and the title single was a worldwide hit that has since been covered by dozens of artists, including Georgie Fame, Graham Bond, The Blues Brothers, The Ventures, Tom Petty, The Shadows, Mongo Santamaría, Deep Purple, Byron Lee, Mike Bloomfield & Al Cooper, Count Basie, and Henry Mancini to name just a few. The album was also included in Robert Dimery's '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.'
