The Complete 1956-57 Studio Sessions - Dizzy Gillespie Big Band

The complete original studio sessions Dizzy Gillespie made showcasing his wonderful big band of the mid-Fifties, which featured such talents as Quincy Jones, Lee Morgan, Joe Gordon, Melba Liston, Al Grey, Phil Woods, Benny Golson and Wynton Kelly. All sides taped by this band at the studio during the period 1956-57 are included here, among them the complete contents of the LPs World Statesman (Norgran MGN-1084/Verve MGV-8174), Dizzy in Greece (Verve MGV-8017) and Birks Works (Verve MG V-8222). Rounding out this set, we have added a three-tune 1956 date by the same band originally issued on the ARS label (CD2, tracks 17-19) and two alternate takes from the Verve sessions. Includes 16-page booklet.
