2 LPs on 1 CD! Two splendid collaborations by the vocal trio of Dave Lambert, Jon Hendricks and Annie Ross with Count Basie or members of his band. Sing a Song of Basie (ABC/Paramount ABC223) is presented here it its original Mono version, and not the electronically rechanneled for Stereo"" one of some reissues which had worst sound quality. It showcases the vocal trio singing all of the horn parts from the Basie band via multi-track recording, backed only by a rhythm section of Basie-ites (with Nat Pierce filling in for the Count). On the Stereo album Sing Along with Basie (Roulette SR52018), the vocalists are accompanied by the whole Basie orchestra with the Count himself at the piano. As a bonus, we have added a version of ""The Spirit-Feel"" from the same period (with Lambert-Hendricks & Ross accompanied again by Nat Pierce), as well as the only two songs from a 1959 Basie concert where the vocal trio was invited to join the orchestra. Includes 20-page booklet with the COMPLETE SONG LYRICS.
