DESCRIPTION
One of the most tastefully elegant pianists, John Lewis rose to the top of the jazz world as the guiding force behind the legendary Modern Jazz Quartet. This release includes Lewis’ complete Paris, December 4 & 7, 1956 quintet sessions with French guitarist (and singer, although he doesn’t sing here) Sacha Distel, tenor saxophonist Barney Wilen, bassists Percy Heath and Pierre Michelot, and drummers Kenny Clarke and Connie Kay. These were Distel’s only recordings with John Lewis. This edition also boasts a delightful bonus track (“Little Girl Blue”) featuring Lewis in a trio format with Heath and Kay, recorded in a New York studio on February 21, 1957.
