Dopo la morte del marito, Francesca decide di andare a conoscere la suocera. Il viaggio è molto difficile, anche perchè Francesca sta per partorire un bambino e la casa è isolata in mezzo ai boschi. Al suo arrivio scopre che la suocera è morta e che in casa sua vive una megera che nasconde un figlio assassino e una figlia subnormale. È proprio quest'ultima che aiuterà in modo decisivo Francesca quando gli altri due abitanti della casa tenteranno di sopprimere lei e il bambino che nel frattempo è nato.
