Dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, Peppino Armentano, di professione callista, vive con tutti i suoi in una casa popolare insieme ad un'altra famiglia. La moglie lo rimprovera continuamente perchè non è riuscito ad assicurare ai familiari una casa tutta loro, così Peppino si industria per trovare qualcosa in affitto. Un trafficone, Pino Calamai, lo porta a vedere una casa appena rimasta vuota:: peccato che si tratti di un ex bordello. Peppino è scandalizzato, ma poi, messo alle strette, è costretto ad accettare di trasferire lì la famiglia.
