La giovane Sally Elliot si lancia nell'attività di venditrice porta a porta di cosmetici ma senza successo. Come se non bastasse, viene anche sospettata di aver ucciso una delle sue clienti. Sally non ci sta a fare da capro espiatorio e fugge insieme al fidanzato Humphrey, non meno impacciato e sfortunato di lei, per scovare il colpevole e persuadere così la polizia della sua assoluta innocenza.
