Il defunto giornalista Joe Strombel, durante uno spettacolo di illusionismo del mago Splendini, appare a Sondra, una studentessa di giornalismo, rivelandole lo scoop del secolo: l'identità del misterioso "assassino dei tarocchi". Sondra si mette subito al lavoro coinvolgendo il mago Splendini. L'indagine li porterà a sospettare dell'affascinante aristocratico Peter Lyman ma ben presto Sondra scoprirà che l'amore della sua vita potrebbe essere proprio il pericoloso assassino che sta cercando.
