Santiago del Cile, 1978. Raúl Peralta è ossessionato dall'idea di impersonare il protagonista di un recente film americano che sta spopolando nelle sale del paese. Raúl, assieme ad un piccolo gruppo di ballerini sul retro di uno scalcinato bar di periferia, si esercita sui passi da discomusic del suo idolo. Quando un famoso programma televisivo, annuncia un concorso per trovare dei Tony Manero cileni, il suo sogno sembra a portata di mano.
