SINOSSI
Paolo Bianchi, un commesso viaggiatore sposato con figli, incontra in treno una ragazza sedotta da un uomo che l'ha poi abbandonata. Ritorna dai suoi genitori in campagna ma ha timore di confessare loro la sua sventura e prega lo sconosciuto di accompagnarla e di presentarsi - soltanto per qualche ora - come suo marito. Il giovane, mosso a pietà dall'angoscia della ragazza, acconsente ma l'artificio non regge. Il marito improvvisato dopo poche ore di vita irreale, costruita dal sogno e dalla pietà, se ne torna alla sua casa e alla vita di ogni giorno, riuscendo però a far perdonare la figlia dai genitori.
