SINOSSI
La stazione di Winchester è testimone dei viaggi di Anna Jesson, che presta servizio come assistente sociale presso una località vicina al paese e del dottor Harvey, medico in un ospedale della zona. Un casuale incontro fa nascere tra i due il cosiddetto colpo di fulmine, anche perché le loro reciproche situazioni familiari lo consentono. Anna infatti vive in una famiglia dai principi sani, ma un po' troppo chiusa, mentre il dottor Harvey non ha un buon rapporto con la moglie. Harvey approfitta delle incertezze di Anna e tenta di convincerla ad abbandonare tutto per trasferirsi con lui in Australia.
