On November 22, 1979 a recording wasscheduled at the Barigozzi Studio, Milan,with Roy Burrowes on trumpet, the SouthAfrican bassist Johnny Dyani (the long servingmember of Chris McGregors Blue Notes),and Clifford Jarvis on drums, which wasreleased as Blues Walk. Later that same evening,Veschi and Davis were talking about pianoplayers over dinner, and conversation turnedto solo piano recordings.Davis expressed his long held desire to makea solo recording and without further ado,Veschi booked the same studio they recordedBlues Walk for the following morning.Davis turned up at the studio with a list hisown originals and jazz standards, and heand Veschi chose nine titles. Throughout,his bebop roots are apparent - "I dont thinkI could wash that out of me."
