Guitarist and composer Federico Casagrande and saxophonist/clarinettist Francesco Bearzatti have considerable experience apart, but their coming together on a new CD "And Then Winter Came Again" represents a significant flowering and ripening of their highly complementary talents. Their music is richly lyrical, thoughtful and in its unique way, quietly dancing. Saxophone and guitar duos are not especially common in jazz, but here two highly intuitive musicians explore exactly where and how their respective instrumental languages find common ground. Impossible to categorise, irresistible in impact, And Then Winter Came Again feels like an event in contemporary jazz. (Brian Morton)
