L'Aquila

Vladimir Dubrovsky, cosacco arruolato nell'esercito russo, incontra la zarina Caterina II quando si trova a salvare la sua carrozza. Di fronte alle avances della zarina, Vladimir decide di fuggire dal palazzo reale, ma poco dopo riceve una lettera dal padre che lo informa che è stato sfrattato con violenza dalle sue terre. Quando Vladimir riesce a raggiungere finalmente la sua famiglia, scopre che nel frattempo il padre è morto. Giura di vendicarlo e di aiutare i contadini vittime del crudele Kyrilla, adotta una maschera nera e diventa una specie di Robin Hood. Ben presto si troverà però a dover scegliere tra l'amore e la vendetta.
