Dante muore in esilio a Ravenna nel 1321. Quasi trent’anni dopo, Giovanni Boccaccio (Sergio Castellitto) viene incaricato di portare, come risarcimento simbolico, dieci fiorini d’oro alla figlia Suor Beatrice, in un monastero ravennate. Ripercorrendo da Firenze a Ravenna una parte del tragitto di Dante e sostando nei suoi stessi luoghi, Boccaccio ricostruisce la vicenda umana del Sommo Poeta, fino a narrarne l’intera vicenda esistenziale. Il maestro Pupi Avati restituisce l’estrema umanità del più grande poeta che l’Italia abbia mai conosciuto.
