Nel pieno della prima guerra mondiale, due soldati britannici, Schofield (George MacKay) e Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), sono chiamati ad un atto eroico. Devono infiltrarsi oltre le linee nemiche per raggiungere il Secondo Battaglione e comunicare loro che li attende una trappola. La riuscita della missione oltre a salvare 1600 commilitoni garantirebbe la salvezza anche al fratello di Blake che fa parte appunto di quel contingente.
