EDITORIAL REVIEWS
The son of poet Ernesto Murolo and Lia Cavalli, Roberto was born in Naples on 23 January 1912. Showing his big passion for music, singing and guitar playing, he began his career as a solo artist in 1946. This first part of his career saw the recording of a great number of successful songs (all available on Collection 50. The 5 cd box edition by Lucky Planets Antologia Napoletana covers the first period with rarities and rediscovered gems. After a breakoff in the recording (but not in the live activity) in the 1990s he returned in studio to work on the album Ottantavoglia di cantare celebrating his 80th birthday and entering the official Billboard chart: this CD includes big hit Don Raffaè sung together with legendary singer-songwriter Fabrizio De Andrè and the touching Cu mmè written by Enzo Gragnaniello and sung with Mia Martini. The album is the first of a five album series all available as single cd and in a box Ottantavogliadicantare that covers his last decade revisiting his entire repertoire. This cycle of recording marks a new milestone in his musical career. Roberto Murolo enjoyed to sing along with some of the greatest Italian and international singers I Grandi Duetti, another mark of respect this musician had in the musical community. Among his partners in these duets we find Peppino Di Capri, Lina Sastri, Lucio Dalla, brazilian star Toquinho. He also recorded two tracks ( Anema E Core and Dicitincelle Vuje ) with legendary Queen of Fado, portoguese star Amalia Rodriguez. Murolo has recorded beautiful versions of contemporary songs by song-writers very dear to him. Just to name a few: Spassiunatamente by Paolo Conte, Caruso by Lucio Dalla, Lazzari Felici by Pino Daniele ( Ottanta voglia di cantar, Senza Fine by Gino Paoli, Sta Musica with Consiglia Licciardi and L ammore ca nun vene, two texts by Enzo Gragnaniello. For his 90th birthday - 23 January 2002 a special tv program Roberto Murolo Day Ho Sognato Di Cantare celebrating the artist s career and hosted by Renzo Arbore, is broadcasted
