Rosa Balistreri started her career in music only when in the middle age, after a very troubled and poor childhood in which she always dreamed to be a singer: in concert she used to perform both original songs and traditional chants from the Sicily folk repertoire she learned since her childhood. Rosa had a very particular voice, loud and dark with a peculiar vibrato, but her main feature was the intensity in her performances in which she managed to communicate all the pain, emotions and love she felt for this ancient land as no one else has done before or after. Her songs often deal with wishes never come true and the most painful side of love and they have something of invocation and prayer and some of them have a real religious quality, sincere but never obsessive. For the same reason she was very committed in social themes that turned her art, always with humility, into lessons of human rights for everyone. Rosa Balistreri died in Palermo for a brain hemorragy
