Quando la famiglia Primm (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) si trasferisce a New York, il giovane figlio Josh fatica ad adattarsi alla nuova scuola e ai nuovi amici. Tutto cambia quando scopre Lyle, un coccodrillo canterino che ama i bagni, il caviale, la grande musica e che vive nella soffitta della sua nuova casa. I due diventano subito amici, ma quando l’esistenza di Lyle viene minacciata dal malvagio vicino Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), i Primm devono unirsi al carismatico proprietario di Lyle, Hector P.
