Maine, America degli anni ’60. Quattro fratelli e una madre gravemente malata sono in fuga dall’Inghilterra e dal loro passato. Si stabiliscono in una fatiscente fattoria sperduta nel nulla, la tenuta di Marrowbone. Quando la madre passa a miglior vita, i fratelli decidono di seppellire il suo corpo in giardino, tenendo all’oscuro il segreto della sua morte. Dopo qualche mese iniziano a verificarsi avvenimenti sinistri, che portano i giovani a nascondere e coprire ogni specchio della tenuta: una presenza inquietante infesta le stanze vuote della casa, tormentando la loro tetra esistenza…
