Messico, Anni ‘80. Dopo la tragica morte dell’ agente della DEA, Enrique «Kiki» Camarena, il leader del cartello di Guadalajara, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna), torna nuovamente al comando, ma dovrà ben presto fare i conti con le conseguenze delle sue azioni. Un gruppo di agenti americani, guidati da Walt Breslin (Scoot McNairy) è sulle sue tracce e i suoi vecchi alleati, tra cui il giovane Chapo Guzman, non sono più al suo fianco. Scoprirà così che nessuno è intoccabile, soprattutto nell’ambiente spietato del narcotraffico.
