Leo Handler esce di prigione per ritrovare la famiglia e il suo vecchio amico Willie. Frank, zio di Leo, gli propone di uscire dal giro che lo aveva portato dietro le sbarre frequentando un corso da meccanico, ma Willie ritiene che a un nuovo ordine sia assai più fruttuoso il losco giro d'affari in cui lo stesso Frank è coinvolto. Istruirà Leo fino a convincerlo a prendere parte a un omicidio. Non sarà che l'inizio di una catena di eventi che lo faranno sprofondare in un baratro.
