Johnny La Morte è un bravo fotografo che lavora anche per la polizia. Un giorno viene assunto per ritrarre un uomo d'affari in compagnia di una bella donna. Poco dopo la donna muore in un incidente stradale e Johnny comprende che potrebbe trattarsi di un assassinio. I sospetti divengono realtà, quando i poliziotti privati lo coinvolgono in una strana storia di ricatti e quando gli omicidi si moltiplicano. Ora anche Johnny è in pericolo e fra lettere anonime, crimini e belle donne, toccherà proprio a lui scoprire la verità.
