Minato che ha 11 anni e vive con sua mamma vedova, inizia a comportarsi in modo strano e torna da scuola sempre più avvilito. Tutto lascia pensare che il responsabile sia un insegnante, così la madre si precipita a scuola per scoprire cosa sta succedendo. Ma la verità, come spesso accade nei film di Kore-eda, si rivelerà essere un’altra e i fatti sveleranno una profonda e toccante storia di amicizia.
