Nel 1755, lo squattrinato capitano Ludvig Kahlen parte alla conquista delle aspre e desolate lande danesi con un obiettivo apparentemente impossibile: costruire una colonia in nome del Re. In cambio, riceverà per sé un titolo reale disperatamente desiderato. Ma l’unico sovrano della zona, lo spietato Frederik de Schinkel, ha la presuntuosa certezza che questa terra gli appartenga.
