Narvel Roth è l’attento orticoltore di Gracewood Gardens, che dedica le proprie giornate tanto a prendersi cura degli incantevoli giardini di questa storica tenuta, quanto a soddisfare la sua datrice di lavoro, la ricca vedova di Haverhill. La sua vita spartana viene però stravolta quando la signora Haverhill gli chiede di assumere come assistente la sua problematica nipote Maya.
