Il petroliere Paul Sturges ha deciso di portare in vacanza la famiglia a Bahia Azul in quella che moglie e marito ricordavano come una località idilliaca ma che oggi ha cambiato misteriosamente volto: la gente è diffidente, la città semi abbandonata, la piattaforma petrolifera che Paul decide di visitare con la famiglia a dir poco fatiscente. È proprio lontano dalla costa che la famiglia resterà bloccata e minacciata da un animale leggendario, un megalodonte, The Black Demon.
