Tumak, figlio del capo della tribù preistorica dei Rock, commette l’errore di sfidare le tradizioni della propria gente e innamorarsi di Loana, appartenente alla tribù dei Shell. Costretto a lasciare i Rock, Tumak trova ospitalità nella famiglia di Loana, che lo avvia a metodi più pacifici e meno belligeranti. Qualsiasi possibilità di riavvicinamento tra le due tribù, però, è spazzata via da una violenta eruzione vulcanica.
