Come L’ora del lupo e La vergogna, girati negli stessi anni, anche questa pellicola si svolge su un’isola del Baltico dove i personaggi si torturano psicologicamente a vicenda. I protagonisti principali sono un artista di mezza età e una donna che forse è stata responsabile d’un incidente in cui hanno perso la vita il marito e il figlio. I due provano a vivere insieme, ma il tentativo finirà in un disastro.
