Lo scenario è un locale notturno. Il proprietario Lefty seduce sistematicamente le ragazze che si esibiscono. Pete è direttore del locale. Quando arriva la bella Lily il seduttore si mette in azione. Ma questa volta la preda non è facile e Pete. non manca di fascino. Sentimenti forti fino alla violenza. Dramma di qualità con cospicui incassi nel 1948. La regia è di un maestro, Negulesco. E i quattro protagonisti sono divi di prima fascia. A quei tempi Widmark era ancora il cattivo e Wilde il “bello” affidabile che piaceva alle donne.
