Il fuorilegge Jason Brett ruba due Colt 45 all’armaiolo Steve Farrell e fugge, dandosi alle rapine e agli omicidi con la sua banda. Farrell, che vuole recuperare le armi, riporta intanto in città una diligenza piena di oro, tanto che viene nominato vice sceriffo, senza sapere che lo sceriffo (Alan Hale) è d’accordo con i banditi, così come Paul Donovan (Lloyd Bridges) e la moglie Beth (Ruth Roman). Steve ottiene poco aiuto dai concittadini, che anzi lo sospettano di essere a sua volta un fuorilegge, ma a sostenerlo c’è un capo indiano a cui ha salvato la vita…
