Mafalda ha sei anni, ama i Beatles, la democrazia, i diritti dei bambini e la pace. Odia la minestra, le armi, la guerra e James Bond. Insomma, una normale bambina di sei anni, che si diverte a giocare al parco coi suoi amici Felipe, Susanita e Manolito. Ma c'è qualcosa che non va. Il mondo come le appare non le piace, sia quello che vive al fianco dei suoi amici, sia quello che percepisce attraverso la radio e la tv. E allora Mafalda non ci sta, si arrabbia, a tratti quasi inveisce, mette a nudo le contraddizioni del mondo degli adulti, che alle sue domande disarmanti non sanno più cosa rispondere.
