12/1975 ha luogo il primo comiketto, la fiera del manga amatoriale. 1983 il fumettista akio nakamori conia il termine otaku in una serie di articoli sulla rivista di fumetto underground manga burikko. 23/7/1989 arrestato tsutomu miyazaki, giovane serial killer responsabile dell'uccisione e mutilazione di quattro bambine. si scopre che e' un frequentatore del comiketto, la sua casa trabocca di anime e manga. i media impazziscono: nasce la questione otaku. 13/4/1990 sul canale giapponese nhk fa il suo esordio la serie fushigi no umi no nadia (il mistero della pietra azzurra), lanciando il giovane studio gainax verso il successo mondiale. 1991 la questione otaku arriva in parlamento.
