macho callagan, tenente delle guardie federali, assuntosi il compito di sbaragliare la banda capeggiata dai fuorilegge butch cassidy e testa di ferro, riesce ad entrare in contatto con quest'ultimo, facendosi passare per un bandito. allorche' butch cassidy e testa di ferro, dopo un diverbio per motivi di interesse, decidono di separarsi e di costituire due bande autonome, macho riesce a convincere testa di ferro ad attaccare l'ex-complice. nello scontro, le due bande finiscono col distruggersi a vicenda. testa di ferro, sopravvissuto alla strage, tenta di fuggire portando con se' la refurtiva accumulata ma ne e' impedito da macho, che porta a termine la sua missione uccidendo il bandito.
