Sung in Italian, with both subtitles and notes in Italian and English. Giovanni Pacini wrote 'Il Convitato di Pietra' as an entertainment for performance by his family, and it is one of the most important of his 90 operas. The libretto is inspired by previous versions of Don Giovanni by Mozart/Da Ponte and by Berlati with music by Gazzaniga. Pacini's opera however does not include Donna Elvira. It requires a scaled-down orchestra and is suited to smaller venues. The roles are demanding on the singers' abilities, particularly Don Giovanni, a Rossini-style virtuoso tenor, and Zerlina, who is a soprano di coloratura with an aria worthy of a true prima donna.
