Designed by renowned engineer Giuseppe Gabrielli, it was characterized by an aerodynamic arrow wing layout and compact dimensions that ensured significant maneuverability in flight. Its good performance allowed the G-91 to win the NATO competition to identify a tactical support aircraft that was easy to manufacture and at the same time versatile and flexible to equip member countries' flight departments. The Fiat G-91 was in fact used by the Italian Air Force but also by Germany and Portugal. Armed with four 12.7mm machine guns in the "R" version.
