The M-47 Patton medium tank was developed and distributed to American armoured departments in the early 1950s. Compared to its predecessors, such as the M-46, it had far superior performance with greater protection and increased firepower ensured by the M3 90mm gun. installed in the turret. The tank weighed approximately 46 tons in combat order and was equipped with a powerful 810 Hp air-cooled Continental V-shaped 12-cylinder engine that allowed the vehicle to reach 45 km/h. In addition to the United States, it was used by numerous NATO armies during the Cold War period. It proved reliable and robust and operated for a long time in the armored units of numerous European armies until the 1980s.
