Rethinking Bach: The Cello Suites

Bereits im 19. Jahrhundert, im Zuge der Bach-Renaissance um Felix Mendelssohn, wurde man auf Bachs Violoncello-Suiten aufmerksam. So fertigte der Violinvirtuose und -pädagoge Ferdinand David eine Bearbeitung für die Violine an. Auf diese Ausgabe von 1866 greift der junge katalanische Geiger Jorge Jiménez für seine Interpretation zurück. Sie enthält für die damalige Zeit ungewöhnlich vielfältige und sehr genaue Angaben zur Ausführung der Musik. Ganz in der Lesart des 19. Jahrhunderts verwendet Jiménez für diese Version eine romantische Geige und einen Bogen aus der Zeit.
