Robert Redford stars as the eponymous character in this Western directed by Sydney Pollack. Mexican War veteran Jeremiah Johnson turns his back on civilisation in the mid-1800s to embrace a new way of life in the Rocky Mountains. He is mentored by a fellow mountain man named Chris Lapp aka Bear Claw (Will Geer) in the art of survival in the harsh wilderness. His new lifestyle brings many rewards and the peaceful existence he longed for until he becomes embroiled in a brutal conflict with the Crow tribe.
