PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Reissue of a rare 1968 recording by the acclaimed Norwegian vocalist Karin Krog. This ground-breaking album in European Jazz was recorded at the height of the swinging sixties, with musicians who were soon to become central to the development of the so-called 'Nordic Sound', including Jan Garbarek, Jon Christensen, Arild Andersen and Palle Danielsson.
'Joy' is regarded as one of Krog's finest recordings and it still retains its contemporary feel. Bonus tracks include the celebrated track "Break of Day in Molde" and they feature a guest appearance by the great American trumpet player Ted Curson.
Personnel: Karin Krog (vocals), Jan Garbarek (tenor sax), Jon Christensen (drums), Arild Andersen, Palle Danielsson (bass), Ted Curson (trumpet) and others
REVIEW
(4 stars) Still sounds startlingly contemporary, like a new-wave folk-jazz project referencing Robert Wyatt and early John Martyn.
-- The Independent On Sunday, (Phil Johnson), November 8, 2009
(4 stars) This long-unavailable 1968 classic shows just why Krog gained a reputation as an innovator so early. -- The Guardian, (John Fordham), September 25, 2009
