Norway's foremost baritone Knut Skram achieved his breakthrough at Glyndebourne in 1969 as Guglielmo in Così. He has appeared in Wagner at the Deutsche Oper and Beethoven, Strauss and Verdi at Staatsoper in Berlin. In his homeland Knut Skram is a living legend, and these days he is heavily involved in performances at the brand new opera house in Oslo. This CD contains concert recordings from Skram's entire career which are being made available for the first time.

After his Norwegian debut Skram went on to make a great impression internationally. He was invited to Glyndebourne nine times, and achieved great success also in 1973 singing Figaro in "The Marriage of Figaro" together with three young, relatively unknown singers, Kiri te Kanawa, Frederika von Stade, and Ileana Cotrubas. Directed by Peter Hall, the performance is now available on DVD. During the 1974-75 season he appeared in a succession of roles in the operas of Rossini, including Figaro in "The Barber of Seville" in Norwegian, the same part in English in Johannesburg, at which time he was learning the part in Italian for a performance at the Théâtre L'Odéon in Paris, and finally in German in Bonn.

Over the years, and with the development of his voice, Skram has taken on all the major baritone roles, including Germont in "La Traviata", and Ford in "Falstaff". He has also appeared in the title role as "Macbeth", and performed the part of Don Carlos in "La forza del destino".
